How the Dutch Law Institute handles your personal data
The Dutch Law Institute, a foundation (stichting) registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 82765170 and based at Beethovenstraat 124-3, 1077 JR Amsterdam, is the controller responsible for personal data processed in connection with www.dutch-law.com. This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What personal data we collect
No registration or account is needed to browse this website. We collect personal data only in the following situations:
- Contact form and email. If you use our contact form or email us directly, we receive the information you choose to provide: your name, email address, phone number, the content of your message, and any files you attach.
- Website analytics. Like most websites, we automatically receive technical information about your visit, such as your browser type, device, approximate location, and the pages you view. This is collected through Google Analytics 4 in aggregated, largely anonymized form. See our cookie policy for details.
We do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data (such as data on health, religion, or political views) through this website, and ask that you do not include such information in your messages to us unless it is directly relevant to your enquiry.
Why we process your data
We process the personal data you submit through the contact form or by email to respond to your enquiry, which is a legitimate interest of the Institute in communicating with visitors and, where relevant, a step taken at your request prior to a possible engagement. We process website analytics data on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used, so we can improve it.
How long we keep your data
We keep correspondence (contact form submissions and emails) for as long as necessary to handle your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case of follow-up questions, and no longer than needed for that purpose. Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics in accordance with the retention settings we have configured, and is not kept indefinitely.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with:
- Board members and authorized staff of the Dutch Law Institute, on a need-to-know basis, to handle your enquiry;
- Our hosting and email service providers, who process data on our behalf under standard data processing terms;
- Google, as the provider of Google Analytics, in connection with website analytics (see our cookie policy).
We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
International data transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google, may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this occurs, it takes place under an adequacy mechanism recognized under the GDPR, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
Your rights under the GDPR
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- request access to the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate data;
- request erasure of your data, subject to any legal obligation we may have to retain it;
- request that we restrict or object to certain processing;
- request a copy of your data in a portable format;
- lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Children's privacy
This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
